[Unthemed] Spinning Spheres

Postby Blarfless » 08 Mar 2010 19:02

Summons 3 projectiles that spin around the Bloodline for X seconds, each one dealing damage if it hits a target and being destroyed.

If anyones ever played Battlebots on Warcraft, they should recognize it as one of the most fun abilities.

Also, its reminiscent to Hammerdins in Diablo II, except the spheres are all summoned at once and use the Bloodline as a central point, not the position where they were casted.

could be good for one special bloodline, but a damage spell as a generic ability doesnt seem to fit imo .. a heal and res is fine imo, purely situational..

Seems like a pretty awkward to use Dmg ability and seems only good for a melee or a tank Bloodline.

If you made it more defensive like "Each sphere blocks a projectile" or something of that nature it could be more useful and still be interesting.

Or a hybrid of the two, make it so absorbing an attack pops a sphere dealing aoe dmg, something similar to Stone Shield.

miking it a hybrid or deffensive spell would probably work, and I admit the concept is rather cool. but it wouldn't go very well with the concept of no random factors, even though it's strictly not random it may well turn out to be, because there is no way you can assume your enemies will, in general, deliberately aim to 'miss' the defending sphere

Err think I probably gave the title a bad name.

I was trying to imply that I hadn't added any sort of theme to it yet, it was made for a bloodline ><

Anywho, it could also have alterations. Could easily be turned into a heal, a stun, or whatever. Personally I don't think it stretches the 100% skill thing too much :P

I think the spike shield approach is much better, having circles that will absorb one incoming attack each, regardless if the attack hits the player or the sphere. that way it's still all about skill.

Thats a completely different skill ;/

With the orbs, you have to consider that you will always have at least one orb covering a 90 degree arc at all times. This leaves a small area for each section at any given time, and still relies completely on timing to pull off succesfully and is therefore still all about skill.

yeah it is because I find your spell flawed, well it does depend on how fast they travel, but I still don't like it.

For sake of argument, lets put it at 1 full rotation per second. Therefore, each sphere covers all 360 degrees.

That means that every .125 seconds, a 45 degree cone is covered by each sphere. As such, 180 degrees are covered per ~10th of a second by the spell. This gives a hug amount of total reach per second to the spell, limiting luck, but as each sphere needs to be positioned to actually hit any target, still requiring skill.

And posting a spell that literally has no relation to mine in any way whatsoever (I post an offensive nuke so you post an offshoot of spiked shield/rune shield?) isn't really contributive to the topic.

hehe, I think I understand you now. I assumed that the spell would also block incomming projectiles, kinda like the three shells in mario cart. so yeah, I was arguing under the impression that this was a spell where the projectiles dal damage but also soak incoming projectiles. my bad. and then the spells is more skill based.

[Offtopic]Oh look, we all uses Thorn Avatar![/offtopic]

I think this could be pretty nice, but has the problem that if it was a shield, it would be waayyy too much about luck if the spell hits the sphere or not.

Probably not since they have absolutely no relation to eachother.
